Mark Buczynski, AIA

Director and Head of Architecture

Mark Buczynski is an architect, designer, and creative director with more than 30 years of international design experience across architecture, themed environments, hospitality, resorts, and visitor experience.

His work has taken him across 14 countries and a wide range of project scales, from private residences through to major destination experiences and large-scale entertainment developments. Based in South East Queensland since 2005, Mark brings together a rare combination of architectural vision, design thinking, and practical construction knowledge across every project.

Throughout his career, Mark has worked at the intersection of architecture, experience, and storytelling, creating environments that are immersive, purposeful, and deeply considered. His approach combines spatial design with a strong understanding of how people move through and connect with place, bringing together sight, sound, atmosphere, and architecture to shape memorable experiences.

Mark moved to Australia in 1995 to become Show Producer and Concept Designer for Sega World Sydney, a landmark indoor virtual reality entertainment destination. He later became Art Director for the Fox Studios Theme Park in Sydney while also establishing his own architectural practice.

Before relocating to Australia, Mark was Director of Design for Iwerks Entertainment in Los Angeles, where he led the design and realisation of entertainment projects in major locations around the world. His work focused on pioneering technology-based urban entertainment environments, helping define a new generation of location-based experience design.

A licensed architect in California, Mark’s early career included working alongside architects influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright and Le Corbusier. These formative experiences shaped a lasting commitment to quality, design integrity, and cohesive thinking across every scale of a project.

Working internationally across architecture, design, construction, and themed entertainment has given Mark a broad and practical perspective on the design process, from concept vision through to delivery. His work continues to be guided by a belief that the strongest design is both sophisticated and simple: thoughtful in concept, resolved in detail, and deeply connected to how people experience space.
